DAY 1

Arrive at Fukue Island around noon

(10 minutes by car→) When you arrive on the island, first go to the car rental office to complete the necessary formalities.

Toyota rental cars are available at a special rate for our guests. Pick-up and drop-off services are also available at the airport and port.

13:00 Nakamoto Seimen’s Goto Udon Noodles

After completing the rental car procedures, (10 minutes by car →) head to Nakamoto Seimen for a hand-stretched udon making experience and lunch. Goto udon is a type of hand-stretched udon and is counted as one of Japan’s three major udon varieties.

14:30 Dozaki Tenshudo

(15 min. by car→) Once your stomach is full, head immediately to Dosaki Tenshudo, a spot unique to Gotō. This brick church was built in the Meiji era (1868-1912), and the apple stone that appears at low tide is also a highlight.

15:30 Onidake

(Onidake, the symbol of Fukue Island, is a must-see, both for climbing and viewing. Goto Retreat is located on a hill overlooking the lava coast, which is said to have been formed by the eruption of Mt.

16:30 Arrive at hotel and check in

(10 minutes by car →) Check in at Goto Retreat ray. As you step into the hotel, you’ll be greeted by ray’s signature ocean view.

17:30 Dinner at the hotel

Enjoy Japanese kaiseki cuisine at the in-house “ray dining” restaurant, where you can savor the flavors of Gotō. In Goto, where fish are abundant and fresh both in summer and winter, you can enjoy a variety of seasonal seafood throughout the four seasons. Another feature of the remote islands is that all agricultural products are “locally produced” because they are not connected to land.

20:30 Starry sky tour

Enjoy the night of Gotō with a guide’s commentary while gazing at a star-filled sky. The starry night sky is breathtaking, which can be seen only on remote islands where there are few lights at night.

22:00 Evening drinks with room service

Back at the hotel, when I got hungry, I ordered room service. A cold-cut entrée of prosciutto ham, salami, and Goto Island specialty peanuts was served with the hotel’s original sweet potato shochu, Goto Imo Tsubaki Yeast, on the rocks.

DAY 2

08:00 Breakfast

Wake up feeling good in the morning and enjoy a superb breakfast at “ray dining”. Freshly cooked white rice and miso soup made with local barley miso. The “Japanese-style meal” is a healthful meal consisting mainly of fish and vegetables. You can see a different view from the dinner time.

It can be served at your favorite time between 07:30 and 09:00.

9:30 Departure from hotel

After breakfast, we departed in the rental car we rented yesterday.

10:00 Uozugasaki Park

(30 min. by car→) This park offers seasonal flowers and the beauty of nature. You can enjoy a panoramic view of numerous islands and the sea.

10:30 Mizunoura Church

(The present Mizunoura Church was designed and built by master craftsman Yosuke Tetsukawa in 1938 (5 minutes by car). This graceful white church was also the setting for the morning drama “Soaring.

11:00 Roadside Station: The Tang Dynasty Envoy Furusato Kan

(10 minutes by car→) A perfect spot to take a break from traveling to experience history and culture.

11:30 Lunch at Mitsui Raku area

(5~10 minutes by car→)

  • Yaki-ya Kukai For charcoal-grilled seafood from Gotō, this is the place to go!
  • Ichiryu Bao Excellent chanpon and Sara udon

13:00 Takahama Beach

(10 minutes by car→) The crystal clear sea and white sandy beach. It is a place you should visit at least once when you come to Gotō. National Route 384, which runs near the beach, has been selected as one of the “100 best roads in Japan” and is a driving course with a spectacular view.

14:00 Osezaki Lighthouse (observation deck)

(40 min. by car→) A white lighthouse built on top of a precipitous cliff with a far-reaching view of the East China Sea. It takes 1 hour round trip from the observatory to the lighthouse.

15:30 Imochiura Church and Lourdes

(10 minutes by car→) A quiet space for prayer and healing is available. The area is said to be the hiding place of Christians who emigrated from the Omura clan and were forced by the Goto clan to work at the salt-making hearths.

16:30 Arakawa Hot Spring Footbath

(20 minutes by car→) A place where you can take a breather and heal your mind and body. The footbath has been renovated to serve as both a bus stop and a waiting room. It is the perfect place to rest your feet when driving.

17:30 Return to hotel

(30 minutes by car→) You can relax in the lobby until dinner, or take an open-air bath with an ocean view in your room. Please spend your time leisurely with the seascape at sunset.

19:45 Dinner at the hotel

For dinner, visit “ray dining”, we offer a consecutive night menu for the second night, and a private room for up to 8 people.

~23:00 Enjoy a quiet night at ray bar

After dinner, take a break and spend the evening at the craft cocktail bar where you can feel the story of Gotō. A non-alcoholic menu is also available. The authentic setting, the essence of Yukio Hashimoto, is also a highlight. There is also a small meditation room behind the bar.

DAY 3

07:00 Abumise Lava Beach Walk

On the last morning, why not wake up a little earlier and take a walk around the hotel?You can enjoy the nearby islands and the beautiful sea while walking along the coast created by nature.

08:00 Breakfast

After returning from a brisk morning walk, we went to the breakfast room at “ray dining”. There are seats on the ocean side and the mountain side, so you can enjoy a different view of Gotō from yesterday.

*You can eat at your favorite time from 07:30 to 09:00.

09:30 Morning bath with ocean view

After breakfast, enjoy the ocean breeze and the sound of the waves as you soak in the open-air guest room bath with an ocean view overlooking the blue sea and sky. The bath amenities and skin care products are made with camellia from Goto, and are also available for purchase at the ray shop.

11:00 Check out and look for souvenirs

After breakfast or check-out, why don’t you come to the “ray shop” and experience the soul of Gotō? We have a variety of products from Goto and Nagasaki, including Goto’s specialty camellia tea, Goto udon noodles, island shochu, processed island water products, craft goods and tableware made by local artisans, and skin care products made from natural island ingredients. The hotel also offers a wide variety of original products.

11:30 Gotō Tourism and History Museum

(20 min. by car→) The historical materials on Goto’s latent Christians, recognized as a World Heritage Site, are well worth a visit!

12:30 Lunch at a restaurant on the island

(5 minutes by car →) Enjoy lunch time around Fukue Port. You can view restaurant information here.
Mochizuki is a restaurant where you can taste “Goto beef”, known as the phantom beef. Besides steak, they offer a variety of menu items including set meals with Goto pork and Goto beef bowls.

13:30 Yamamoto Nizo Museum of Art (Buke Yashiki Dori)

(5 minutes by car) The Shoen Residence, a samurai residence built in 1863 (Edo Period), has been renovated. The museum features the paintings of Goto-born artist Fizo Yamamoto, who served as art director for many animation masterpieces, including “Laputa: Castle in the Sky” and “Princess Mononoke,” as well as a sense of Goto’s history.

14:30 Coral Processing Experience

(20 min. by car→) You will feel the fun of handmade and create wonderful works of art. Straps, necklaces, and other items of your choice.

15:30 Kashuko Beach (Camellia Products Museum is adjacent)

(10 minutes by car→) The beach with its clear, beautiful sea and white sand is unique to the remote islands. There is also the Goto Camellia Products Museum, which is a must-see at the end of your trip. The soft ice cream with salt from Goto is highly recommended!

16:30 Return rental car (around the port)

(10 minutes by car→) Return the rental car at Toyota Rent-A-Car and go to Fukue Port and Fukue Airport (Goto Tsubaki Airport). Pick-up and drop-off service is available at the airport and port.
